I’m not going to lie- I was D.E.A.D. tired yesterday! 😴It was the kind of tired that had me counting the hours until it seemed like a reasonable time to shower and go to bed without just packing it in for the entire day. It was the kind of day that made me wish I was a Nap-Person. I’ve never understood the whole nap thing. Once I’m up, I’m up. The only reason I might go to sleep during the day would involve a fever. I’m the kind of person who soldiers on regardless of how I’m feeling. Suck it up, Buttercup. So what if I’m tired. There are a lot of things worse than feeling tired.
I didn’t give sleep a lot of thought when I was younger. I’ve always loved to stay up late and sleep late. If sleeping in wasn’t an option, it was no big deal. I could stay up all night in college and head straight to my 7:40AM class without even grabbing a coffee. ☕️
Well, there wasn’t enough coffee ☕️ for me yesterday as I tried to function with my eyes open! You see- my husband and I spent the evening with our daughter, her friends, and other parents as the kids celebrated Homecoming with a football 🏈 game and a dance 💃🏻 followed by a breakfast! My problem was doing all of this after a full day of teaching middle school and with a migraine that chose the wrong time to hit. 😏 BUT- I did it! 🙌🏻I stayed up until 2:00! The night was a blast🎉– lots of laughter,😂lots of snacks (a killer lemon 🍋 pie!). It was just a struggle to stay awake the next day.
So- my Self-Care Sunday tip? Get enough sleep! 😴 💤 🛏
Adjust your bedtime to get the hours you need to feel your best. Put down the device. Grab your favorite blanket. Put on those fuzzy socks. (Am I the only one who loves these? It doesn’t matter what season it is- I’m sleeping in fuzzy socks!)
Maybe folks like me should even consider the benefits of a nap every now and then!
It’s a luxury that is sometimes difficult to get- even for the best of reasons! ❤️And-while I was exhausted-I wouldn’t have missed that Homecoming experience for anything! I made the time to get that much needed sleep!👍🏻
