Show Up!

Do you have people in your life that you can count on?πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ I hope so. I’m talking about those people who listen when you vent and πŸ˜‚ laugh at your goofy jokes. They aren’t afraid to tell you the truth, even if it’s difficult. They celebrate your successes like it’s their own party!πŸ₯³

People who show up.

I think I’m πŸ€ lucky or blessed or whatever you want to call it. I have a lot of people in my life like that. πŸ₯° They show up. Maybe it’s a text to say hello or a chat to share a story. Or having a genuine interest in my life and allowing me into theirs.πŸ’ž It’s people who feel like sunshine even when it’s raining.β˜€οΈ

I remember a kid in one of my classes many years ago. His family was πŸ’° wealthy. I’m talking about owning an ✈️ airplane wealthy. This little guy had everything πŸ’΅ money could buy, but that wasn’t what he wanted. His father told him he’d be there on ❀️ Valentine’s Party Day. His dad had never attended a holiday party or any other event at school.😞 That dad was physically present but mentally checked out at parent-teacher conferences.🀨 Yet, his son believed he was coming that day because Dad said he’d be there. That little boy stood at the classroom πŸšͺ door while the other kids ate 🧁 cupcakes and played games. He made excuses about why his dad was late when I tried to coax him back to the party. The πŸ˜₯ tears came when he finally realized that his dad wasn’t coming. I remember feeling 😑 angry with the dad for the empty promise. I knew better than to expect him at the party. Passing out juice boxes to little kids wasn’t his style. The boy was too young to be jaded, though. He held out hope.

What’s the moral of that story? There are two. When people show you who they are, believe them. πŸ’₯ And don’t make promises you can’t deliver.πŸ’₯

Be the kind of person others can count on. β˜€οΈ Surround yourself with people who have your back even when times get tough. β˜€οΈ Life’s going to get messy. You’re going to lose your glitter. People are going to be hard to love sometimes. Show up anyway. Someone is waiting at the door for you.πŸ’–
