Just Browsing

I needed a particular item the other day, and I dreaded going into the store. 😬Am I the only one who doesn’t want workers to run toward me the second I step inside? Don’t get me wrong- I’m totally good with a greeting.👋🏻 I might even be the first one to speak. I’m talking about the workers who say hello, then follow me around the store, suggesting the freshest fragrances or those new 👠shoes without taking a breath. You know what I mean- right? The ones who think the words “just browsing” are an invitation to become my shadow. 🙄

There’s no substitute for good customer service. 👍🏻I think it includes reading the customer. Some folks enjoy having every new scent spritzed on their wrists. They want opinions before buying 👖jeans. Commissions are a big deal, too. Who wouldn’t suggest the handbag if they get a 💰piece of the sale? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Employees who understand their products and answer questions with solid information are valuable.🙌 Just don’t walk me through the store to show me the new 👕tops that just came in or ask me to feel a 🧴lotion on my skin. Let me wander a little bit.

Even if I need something specific, I want to find it myself. Maybe it’s the thrill of the hunt.🎯 Or that I want to try the sweatpants on my own.🙋🏻‍♀️ Or the joy of a quiet moment to browse all by myself. 🥰It’s not called retail therapy for nothing. I’ll tell you this, though. I’m not asking you where something is located until I’ve exhausted every corner of the store first.😜 It doesn’t matter how many people ask me- I’m going to go it alone for as long as possible. As a matter of fact, if I’m not allowed to do that, I may just try another store or hop online to find my item.❗️

Shopping can be 😀fun, or it can be 😩stressful. Some stores have such high-pressure tactics that I avoid them altogether. It’s tough to balance friendliness and helpfulness as a salesperson, for sure. But, some people and companies have mastered it. Those are the places that keep happy customers coming back through the doors.💯 Those are the places where I simply browse sometimes but remain first in line for my business.💖
