Hey there! As a Communication Arts teacher for middle school kids, I wanted to find a way to get their writings out there. I wanted their pieces to be relevant to their world. I set up a WordPress site to publish their writings on a weekly basis.
The plan is to post writings from a specific grade level each week. For example, the first week has introduction pieces by my 8th graders, which will be followed by introductions from 7th and 6th graders. I’ll assign some topics, but the students will also have the opportunity to write about topics that interest them.
Of course, we’ll clean up any editing errors because that is part of the learning process. Another goal with our blog is for the students to develop their voices through writing. You’ll notice that the students use ‘pen names’ to publish their pieces as a way to provide privacy.
Kids are all about the “follows” and the “likes.” We’d love any positive feedback as well. Will you join us in this blog journey to get the Middle School Scoop?
