Doug’s Winter Party

Is anyone else excited about Doug’s Winter Party? Let’s back it up a bit for people who aren’t sure what I’m talking about. It all started with a sweet invitation from one neighbor to another.

An 87-year-old man named Doug created invitations using pen and ink featuring a hand-drawn snowflake and party information on carefully folded white paper. He said that food and drinks would be provided and asked guests to bring a smile. The best part? He said the party would be on February 15 from “4PM until the cops arrive.”

When one neighbor shared a video on TikTok of Doug hand-delivering the invitation, social media turned Doug’s party invitation into a viral sensation. The party is just for Doug’s neighbors, but everyone wants to get in on the winter celebration. His invitation sparked a movement. People are sending party donations (Michael Buble’ is sending whiskey!) and planning their own versions of Doug’s Winter Party. Live streams are even planned.

This whole thing isn’t really about a party, though. It’s about connecting with people and making memories. It’s about kindness and love. Thanks to Doug’s Winter Party, we see that goodness is all around us. We just needed an invitation to look.

I wanted to be part of the Doug’s Winter Party movement and knew exactly what to do. Doug will have lots of thank you notes to write, so I created a Word Sunshine thank you card, especially for Doug and his Winter Party. He can use the ink and pen again to write his special messages and maybe add some snowflakes.

Those thank you cards will arrive at the unique address provided for donations and well wishes for a man who proved that it doesn’t take much to make the world smile. Thanks, Doug. We all needed your message.
