What If…We Rejoice

It’s official. SPRING is here. 🎉Finally. I don’t have a true diagnosis of Seasonal Affective Disorder, but my mind and body just seem to function better when there is plenty of ☀️sunshine and warm air. I slow down during the ☃️winter months, regardless of my busy schedule. I feel 😴tired, lethargic, unmotivated. When that sun goes down before dinner, I’m done with my day, too.

“No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.”– English Proverb

Winter seemed especially long and ❄️cold and dark this year- not just literally, but figuratively as well. Heck- the past year has seemed like about ten! 😳During the warmer weather throughout last spring, summer, and fall, we could get outside and feel the warmth of the ☀️sun. Winter made me retreat inside- under blankets with the 🔥fireplace glowing. That was fun for a day or two, but I was quickly over that scene. 😜

There’s something else about spring, though. The ☀️sunshine and budding 🌼gardens are a small part of the puzzle. When the pieces are put together, spring really brings 💝hope and renewal. It provides opportunities for change and growth. 💝It gives a feeling of freedom that just isn’t there for me in the gray days of ❄️winter. My mood is lighter and more creative. 😀I feel healthier. 😀I tackle projects and set goals that I put on hold during the winter. 😀I wake up easier.

“Never yet was a springtime, when the buds forgot to bloom.”– Margaret Elizabeth Sangster

It’s Spring Break from school this week. 🙌🏻After a strange and challenging school year with a full quarter still left to teach, the ⏰time is both welcomed and necessary. I’m ready for renewal. It’s time to let those powers of 🌼spring work some magic on my soul. I feel ready to 🌷bloom again. 🌸Fitness goals in place? Check. 🌸Professional ambitions planned? Working on it. 🌸Creative juices flowing? More and more every day. 🌸Mental health in a positive place? Yep. 🌸Learning how to be a good human? Daily. 🌸Keeping an open mind? Always- no matter the season.

“The day the Lord created hope was probably the same day he created Spring.”– Bernard Williams

There is hope in the extended hours of ☀️sunlight. Hope in the fresh 🌷blooms. Hope in the chirping birds. Hope in the positive trends with the pandemic. 🌸Spring is here, friends. What if…we rejoice in the hope of renewal? Breathe it in. This particular spring has been a long time coming. 💖
